Recent studies show that Celiac Disease is four times more prevalent nowadays than it was in the 1950’s. This condition is characterized by an intense immune reaction to gluten which damages villi in the small intestines, some common sources of the compound include wheat, rye and barley. It now affects approximately 1 in every 100 people. In the research, preserved blood samples taken from healthy male subjects between 1950 and 1954 were scientifically tested for celiac antibodies.
