These healthy fruit dips, in strawberry and chocolate flavors, with Greek yogurt, light cream cheese, honey, fresh or frozen strawberries, and a bit of melted chocolate and cocoa powder are a hit at parties—or any time!
Why you’ll love this healthy fruit dip recipe
These recipes for gluten-free yogurt fruit dip are a fantastic way to enjoy a healthier dessert option that still packs a punch of flavor. With a choice of indulgent chocolate or fruity strawberry cheesecake, you can satisfy your cravings without feeling guilty.
Both dips are versatile and easy to prepare, and they’re perfect for sharing at parties or for enjoying with family and friends. What’s not to love?
Chocolate dip
The chocolate dip is made with both cocoa powder and one tiny little ounce of melted dark chocolate. If you can, use Dutch-processed cocoa powder, as natural cocoa powder can be rather acidic-tasting.
If you do use natural unsweetened cocoa powder, be sure to add the extra honey to even out the acidity. The melted chocolate really does balance out the flavors nicely, and provides a slightly richer chocolate flavor.
Both the chocolate dip and the strawberry dip recipes have plain Greek yogurt as a base. I really like both the thick texture and bright tangy taste that it brings.
Using plain Greek yogurt also means that we can sweeten the dips with honey, instead of something like confectioners’ sugar. If we began with a thinner yogurt, we’d have to start thickening it with confectioners’ sugar, since that’s not only powdered sugar but has some thickening starch in it.
The strawberry dip
If you wanted to shortcut the strawberry dip, you could of course use strawberry-flavored Greek yogurt, in place of plain, but that will also contain added sugars and other ingredients.
I like to start with plain yogurt, especially since I typically use defrosted frozen berries for this recipe, and they’re not only economical but have a really deep strawberry flavor. Sometimes, fresh strawberries can be kind of meh if they’re not bought right in the heart of strawberry season.
The benefits of Greek yogurt in this healthy fruit dip recipe
Greek yogurt is a fantastic ingredient to use in these fruit dips. It’s not only healthier than alternatives like sour cream or heavy cream, but it also provides a thick and creamy texture that makes the dips feel indulgent.
Greek yogurt is packed with protein and probiotics, which support gut health and can help you feel fuller for longer. Plus, the tangy flavor of Greek yogurt complements the sweetness of the honey and fruit, creating a well-balanced and delicious taste.
Fruits to pair with your easy yogurt fruit dip
When it comes to serving this Greek yogurt fruit dip, you can get creative with your choice of fruits. In the summer months, take advantage of seasonal berries like strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries. In the colder months, try pairing the dips with apple slices, grapes, or even pineapple chunks. The possibilities are endless!
Whatever you choose, these thick, delicious and healthy yogurt dip recipes are so simple to throw together. Never be tempted by those overpriced grocery store fruit platters again!
Presentation ideas for when you’re feeling fancy
To make a beautiful presentation, arrange your fruit on a large platter, with separate bowls for each dip. You can also create individual fruit skewers or use small cups for single servings.
To make it even more special, garnish the dips with a sprinkle of cocoa powder for the chocolate dip or a few fresh strawberry slices for the strawberry cheesecake dip.
Mostly, I don’t bother. I just lay out a fruit platter with the dips on the board and some plain yogurt. But, when we’re having a celebration or your favorite fresh fruit and creamy dip is part of a larger spread, go for it – get fancy!
Dress it up for extra special occasions
For a fancier presentation at parties or special events, consider serving your healthy fruit dip in elegant glassware, such as martini glasses or small dessert cups. You can also garnish the dips with edible flowers, mint leaves, or a dusting of powdered sugar for an extra touch of sophistication.
FAQs
How long can I store the fruit dip?
These easy dips can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Be sure to give them a good stir before serving, as the ingredients may separate slightly during storage.
Can I substitute other fruits for the strawberry dip?
Absolutely! You can easily swap out the strawberries in the strawberry cheesecake dip for other fruits like raspberries, blueberries, or even a mix of your favorite berries. Just be sure to adjust the amount of honey to taste, as different fruits may have varying levels of sweetness.
Are there any dairy-free alternatives?
If you’re looking for a dairy-free alternative, try using a dairy-free yogurt, such as almond or coconut yogurt, in place of the Greek yogurt. Keep in mind that the texture and flavor may differ slightly, so you might need to adjust the amount of honey and other ingredients to achieve the proper consistency and taste.
For the cream cheese in the strawberry cheesecake dip, you can try using a dairy-free cream cheese substitute. I’ve never found a dairy free cream cheese that tastes exactly like the “real” thing, but Miyoko’s Kitchen brand comes closest.
And if you’re looking to make healthy vegan fruit dips, in addition to the dairy-free substitutes, you’ll need to switch the honey for a plant-based alternative like agave syrup.
