Diagnosing childhood celiac disease: past and present

The European Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatolgy and Nutrition (ESPGHAN) published guidelines in 1970 for diagnosing celiac disease based on the morphological changes in the small intestinal mucosa. Here is a review (open PDF file) of the history of celiac disease diagnosis with a summary of the current diagnostic guidelines, which includes non‐biopsy as a diagnosis in some cases.
